Commencement Spotlight: Savion Knight, Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice

Future Plans: Master of Science in Cybersecurity, Kennesaw State University

Savion Knight, a Danville, Georgia native, will graduate on May 7 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. He is a member of the Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, National Pan-Hellenic Council Leadership Council, Criminal Justice Club, and Velma Fudge Grant Honor Program. He is also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., serving as chapter president of the Delta Delta Chapter. He is passionate about the community, volunteering with Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful, Open Arms, Inc., and the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church Community Garden. A scholar committed to academic excellence, he has made the dean’s list from 2019 to 2022, and has served as Mr. Honors Council, Mr. Criminal Justice, and is a Merit Scholar. Savion has been accepted into the Kennesaw State University Master of Science in Cybersecurity program, and hopes to work as a cybersecurity analyst for the FBI.

What motivated you to learn more about your field?
All my life I have been thrilled by law enforcement. I wanted to know all the details that are required to solve cases and catch the bad guys. I transitioned to incorporate technology into law enforcement. I chose to do cybersecurity to get the best of both worlds.

Why did you choose ASU?
I wanted to attend an affordable, good academic standing HBCU where I could have a great student experience. I landed at ASU and it has granted me with an abundance of opportunities.

How did ASU prepare you to succeed after matriculation?

ASU prepared me to succeed after matriculation by having workshops, guest speakers who made life changing impacts on my life, and also the connection I have with my professors.


What do you love most about your chosen profession?
The criminal justice field is full of jobs that help others. There are a vast variety of career options available in the field. Criminal justice careers go beyond your 9 to 5, where every day is excitingly unique. 

Who at ASU has made the biggest impact on you and who do you consider to be a role model at ASU?
The person that made the biggest impact at ASU is Kenton Meronard. He saw great potential from me and decided not to give up on the lost kid. He took me under his wing and guided me all the way through college.

What advice would you give to other ASU students?
Drive and push yourself to want to do better. Make yourself, family and friends proud. Enjoy every moment of your time here in undergrad because it will be over quite swiftly.

What would you say to a high school student about choosing ASU to further their education?
ASU offers a wide range of explorations in college. You will never know where you will end up at. There will never be a dull moment at ASU. Albany strives off the success of one another.
