Transfer Student Spotlight: Taylar Adams
Taylar Adams, an Albany, Georgia native is a junior health and human performance major. In 2021, she transferred to Albany State University from Columbus State University. She aspires to become a pediatric physical therapist.
What is your major at Albany State University and what motivated you to learn more
about that field?
My major is health and human performance. I chose this major because working in the
medical field has always been a dream of mine. It gives me the opportunity to help
people and make a difference in their lives.
Why did you choose ASU?
I chose ASU because after attending a predominantly white institution (PWI), I felt
like I made the wrong decision. I felt it would be best for me to come back and attend
an HBCU in my hometown.
What do you enjoy about being a student at ASU?
I enjoy the culture and diversity of the school. It’s very different from my previous
school and having a chance to be surrounded by others with a similar background is
amazing.
What do you love most about your chosen field?
I love getting to work with children. Children have always been a key to my heart,
and I love them dearly. My biggest goal is to make them proud of what I do and hopefully
leave them with a huge impact.
Who made the biggest impact on you at ASU?
I would say Mrs. Valerie A. Lee has had the biggest impact on me. Although I just
met her, seeing the joy she has for teaching and the relationships she creates with
her students is amazing.
What are the obstacles you’ve had to overcome to progress as a college student?
Adapting to a new environment is the biggest challenge I’ve had to overcome with being
a college student. I’m sort of an introvert, so meeting new people and being in a
foreign environment has always been challenging for me. I feel that ASU has helped
me a lot because I’ve found myself becoming more social and open.
What advice would you give to students interested in transferring to ASU?
I would tell them to come immediately. This school has so much to offer and everyone
is very welcoming!
