Why did you choose ASU?
ASU had an accredited DMS Program, and I had heard nothing but wonderful things. I
knew this was the school for me as it was the perfect distance from home and still
allowed me to obtain a great education.
What motivated you to learn more about your field?
My dad motivated me. For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be in
the medical field. I did CNA in high school, but I quickly realized that the CNA/nursing
route was not for me. My dad introduced me to the thought of becoming an RDMS and
I went from there. I’m so thankful he guided me in this direction because it is the
best decision I have made to date.
What do you love most about your chosen profession?
I love what I do. Scanning can be fun when I am scoping out pathology and discovering
stuff I have never seen before, but my favorite part is working with all the different
patients. I have met so many great people during my time in clinicals. I cannot wait
to add RDMS behind my name and continue this career for many years to come.
Who has made the biggest impact on you, and who do you consider to be a role model
at ASU?
Without a doubt, my teachers! Mrs. Kacey Davis and Mrs. Lindsay Vowell were there
for me every step of the way. From entering the program to leaving, they have supported
me all the way through. I am so appreciative for all their help. From answering my
1,000 questions, calming my nerves before every test, and going above and beyond for
all the girls in the program to make sure we have everything we need; I could not
have done this without them. Never once have I felt like just ‘another’ student, my
teachers have made sure to treat us all like their own. I’m ready to graduate, but
I will miss my time here at ASU.
What advice would you give to other ASU students?
I know school can be tough and you feel like you’ll never see the end but keep going!
Make sure to take time to have fun and be a young adult too! I always take time at
least one day a week to close my books and do the things I’d like to do. It is so
important to alleviate your mental health whenever you get to feeling ‘burnt out’
but you must keep your priorities straight as well.
What would you say to a high school student about choosing ASU to further their education?
Do it! If you are unsure of what you would like to do in the future, ASU is a suitable
place to start. They offer so many different degrees and career paths. The faculty
is more than happy to help steer you in the right direction. I have thoroughly enjoyed
my time here at Albany State! Go Rams!
