Commencement Spotlight: Colby Richardson, Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communication 
Future Plans: Board Operator 95.5, Cox Media  

Colby Richardson, a Decatur, Georgia native, will graduate on May 6 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication. She is a member of the ASU student-run radio station, WASU92.7, and the Ram News Network Club.  

While enrolled, she volunteered with the Communicative Solutions Group's “Each One, Reach One” program to help students with disabilities.  

Committed to academic excellence, she made the President’s List and the Dean’s List, the highest-ranking senior in mass communications, and the highest-ranking student with a 4.0 GPA. She was also a recipient of scholarships from the Albany State University Alumni Chapter, HOPE, AT&T/Pals, and Communicative Solutions Group.  

Richardson has interned with the Sanford Bishop Congress Campaign, Audacy Atlanta, and Georgia Public Broadcasting. She was also selected to participate in the “HBCU in LA,” an Entertainment Industry College Outreach Program (EICOP).  

She has accepted a position with Cox Media in Atlanta, Georgia as a board operator for the radio station, 95.5.  

  

What motivated you to learn more about your field?  
My intern experiences, coursework, and working at WASU radio. 
 

Why did you choose ASU? 
I liked their mass communication program and knew some people who attended the school.  
 

What do you love most about your chosen profession?  
I love working with people and learning how to engage an audience through media platforms. 

Who has made the biggest impact on you, and who do you consider to be a role model at ASU?  
My mother has made the biggest impact on me. Ms. Connie Williams and Ms. Stephanie Ricks have been my superb role models at ASU. 

 

What are you passionate about outside of your education?  
I am passionate about music and helping others. 
 

What advice would you give to other ASU students? 
I would tell them to work ahead of deadlines so they stay caught up and build relationships with their professors to create social networks.  

 

What would you say to a high school student about choosing ASU to further their education?  
I would tell them that it’s a great school to balance learning with the college experience. The professors are approachable and will work with you to achieve your aspirations.
